be thinking of
•express a vague intention of uncertain plan
•v~(으)ㄹ까 말까 하다 - wonder whether to do or not, express hesitation of doing smthn
v~(으)ㄹ까 하다 cant be used with interrogative, imperative, proposition or future tense
다음 달부터 매일 아침에 운동을 할까 해요?/할까 합시다/할까 하세요/할까 할 거예요 (incorrect)
다음 달부터 매일 아침에 운동을 할까 해요 - i’m thinking of exercising every morning next month (correct)
it takes a lot of time to go from seoul to busan by mugunghwa train. so i’m thinking of taking the ktx
서울에서 부산까지 무궁화 열차로 타면 시간이 많이 걸려요. 그래서 ktx를 탈까 해요
i don’t want to prepare dinner so i’m thinking of ordering it

v~고자 (하다)
did A to do B / plan to
•express the speakers intention to do action
•mostly used in official situation like giving speech, write report
when using v~(으)고자 (하다) the subject of both clauses must be the same, negative particles can’t be used
나는 취직하고자 (나는) 열심히 공부를 했습니다
V-고자 하다 = express the speaker’s intention to do an action and it is more formal than V-(으)려고 하다 grammar = plan to, try to, would like to
회사 다니는 사람들 술을 많이 마시지요?
- 네, 스트레스를 풀고자 술을 많이 마시는 것 같습니다.
The company staffs drink a lot of alcohol, right?
- Yes, it seems they drink a lot to release the stress.
V~(으)려던 참이다
be just about to
•express the speaker is about to do something very soon “have already been planning to do”,”was just about to do”
•마침, 그렇지 않아도, 안 그래도 can be used with it to express speaker had already intended to do the action
V~(으)려던 참이다 and V~(으)려던 참이었다 are different
•V~(으)려던 참에 is used when another clause is followed
지금 그 책을 사려던 참이에요 - i am just about to buy that book now (at moment of conversation)
그 책을 사려던 참이었어요 - i have already been planning to buy that book (before time of conversation)
i heard that movie is interesting, do you want to see it?
sounds good. even if you hadn’t asked i had been planning to see it anyways
저 영화가 재미있다고 하는데 저 영화를 볼래요?
좋아요. 그렇지 않아도 나도 보려던 참이었어요
