Authority Having Jurisdiction is an organization, office, or individual responsible for enforcing the requirements of a code or standard, or for approving equipment, materials, an installation, or a procedure. In some areas of the world , authority having jurisdiction is known as a “regional regulatory authority . “
Standards
are documents that provide requirements, specifications,
guidelines or characteristics that can be used consistently to ensure that
materials, products, processes, and services are fit for their purpose. They
are often prepared by a standards organization or group and published with
an established procedure.
Codes and Laws
are mandated methods, practices, and collections of
standards that must be done by force of law. You can be legally punished
for not following them. Generally an inspector will be present to verify that
the work is being done according to code. Each jurisdiction may have its
own set of regulations.
