Explosive Actuated Tools Flashcards
What are the six power levels and colors ?
Power level 1 gray level 2 brown level 3 green level 4 yellow level 5 red level 6 purple
What three calibers do power load types come in
.22, .25 & .27
When carrying or storing power loads what should you never do
Never carry fasteners or other metal objects in the same top pocket has power load. Always store different strengths of power loads in separate boxes or containers
What are the three most common Fastener types
Drive pins, threaded studs, Drive pin assemblies
When using threaded studs what should you not do
Do not over tighten the nut on the thread or you could pull the stud out
Want is a drive pin assembly
A drive pin assembly is a drive pin with a mounted washer, bracket, fixture or clip used for a variety of special applications example angle clips for suspended ceilings EMT clips for electrical conduit applications large diameter plastic washers for insulation application
What Shank diameter is classified as light duty and what Shank diameter is classified as heavy duty
4.83 mm or less is light-duty. 4.83 and over is heavy duty
What is a tension load
A tension load applies force to the fastener perpendicular to the base material surface. Or away from the base
What is a shear load
A shear load applies force to the fastener perpendicular to the pin.
What is a bending load
I shear load force is applied at a distance from the surface of the base material creating a lever type action on the Fastner
What are some unsuitable base materials
Brick slate and rock
How was your test material before shooting into it ?
The center punch test. Use a Fastner as a punch hit the faster with a single hammer blow and see if the tip was blunted or if it made an imprint on the material
When shooting into Masonary or concrete what are some suitable base materials
Poured concrete pre cast concrete with engineers approval pre stressed concrete with engineers approval mortar joints horizontal only
Properly set Fastener penetrates the concrete to what depth
6 to 8 times the diameter of the shank
How many days after concrete reach its design strength to be fastened into
7 days it is at 65%_75% of it’s max strength
