Q

Written in 3rd person

A
  • ‘Mr brooks contacted his wife’
  • treats them like cartoon characters, less tension —> Morris wants us to focus on how comedic it is and terrible for taxpayers, he wants the reader to not be able to connect to them (if it were in 1st person we would)

Q

They’re like cartoon characters

A

‘Survived a charge by a silver back gorilla in the Congo’
- Comedic, sounds made up and ridiculous; takes away any sympathy a reader might have for the explorers who might’ve been traumatised or hurt during the helicopter crash, instead they are seen as cartoony, undermining any danger that they were in
- ‘they’ll probably have their bottoms kicked and be sent home the long way’ again emphasises the cartoon like concept of the explorers to the reader.
- infantilising them and diminishing the heroism and bravery of what they were trying to achieve
