Cortez was a Spanish conqueror who defeated the Aztec people and declared Mexico for Spain.

He was sailing west because he believed it would take him east. He reached a new continent that no one knew about in Europe. He claimed it for Spain. He was on the search for gold because Spain needed money to pay for the wars. Queen Isabella and King Ferninand agreed to send him with 3 ships.

He was an explorer who traveled to Florida and searched for the Fountain of Youth.

He was traveling for Spain. He got the credit for having the crew that was the first to circumnavigate the world, although he got killed before they made it back to Europe.

He was a Spanish Explorer who discovered Peru and conquered the Inca empire.
Who was John Cabot?
He traveled for King Henry of England, discovered Newfoundland. He claimed the land for England and told about codfish off Newfoundland.

He was the first to cross Panama and claim the Pacific Ocean for Spain.

He was an astronomer who tried to seek a star that would show which way was south, like the North Star showed north. He explored the coast of Brazil. Stories of his travels were exaggerated. His name was put on a map of the New World by a German mapmaker.

He was the first French explorer to sail up the St. Lawrence River and look for the Northwest Passage.

He was a French explorer who traveled in the Great Lakes region. He found a lake that is now between Vermont and New York. He began a fur trading post at Quebec.

They were great shipbuilders who traveled from Scandinavia that explored Greenland, Iceland, and Newfoundland, which they called Vineland.
Who was Henry Hudson?
He was a sailor for the Dutch East India Company. He found a famous river near New York. He got to Canada and looked for the Northwest Passage. His crew left him to near the bay which is now named after him.
Who was Sir Walter Raleigh?
He sponsored many attempts to colonize Virginia, including”Lost Colony” of Roanoak Virginia.
