Assessed 65 pregnant women on cognitive vulnerability and depression before and after birth
Found that those with a high cognitive vulnerability were more likely to suffer post natal depression
What did Clark and Back (1999) find?
Reviewed research on this topic and concluded that there was solid support for all things cognitive vulnerability factors
What is the practical application of the cognitive approach explaining depression?
Cognitive behavioural therapy which is widely used to treat depression and is very effective in treating depression which shows the cognitive element
Can the cognitive explanation explain all aspects of depression?
No
Depression is too complex and some parts cant be explained by one explanation such as the anger and hallucinations which come with some types of depression
