What is deviation from ideal mental health?
A
If the individual does not fit with the theoretical description of what is “normal” then they are considered to be abnormal

The individual is able to adapt to new situations and be at ease in all situations in their life

A
- Focused
- Positive
- Gives the individual goals to work towards
- It is comprehensive as it covers a wide range of criteria

What are the weaknesses of this definition?
A
- It is almost impossible to achieve all 6 criteria and reach ideal mental health
- Ethnocentric - suggests that collectivist cultures are abnormal
- It is subjective
- Hard to measure
