All - Religion
Because they spread Christianity, predominantly Protestantism as well as Catholicism as they moved around the empire. Many Scots worked as missionaries converting local populations in India, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
India - Political changes
James Dalhousie used his time as governor general of India to ban practices of suttee and thugee. The outlaw of such practices was not welcomed by some Indian people.
New Zealand - development of education
Because New Zealand’s education was directly developed and heavily influenced by Scottish emigrants by setting up schools and universities such as the university of Otago.
Canada - development of businesses
Because in Canada Scots dominated the paper industry and by 1920 a quarter of Canadian business leaders were Scottish. This helped Canadas industry’s dramatically grow and made Canada richer.
Canada - place names
Because many places in Canada were named after places in Scotland for example: Elgin and Aberdeen
Canada - influenced educational development
Because they set up schools and universities based upon the Scottish curriculum using Scots as teachers, for example McGill university in Canada.
Canada - development of Canadian pacific railway
George Stephen at the bank of Montreal helped finance it and Stanford Fleming was the main engineer both were Scottish.
Australia - farming
Because they introduced the first Marino sheep, by doing this Scot’s revolutionised the agricultural industry in Australia and made it a world leader in producing merino wool and lamb meat
