Experiments Flashcards
What are the 2 different types of experiments?
Field & Laboratory
Example of field & lab experiments
Rosenthal and Jacobson & Milgram
Advantages & disadvantages of lab experiments
Advantages:
highly replicable, detatched method as researcher manipulates variables and records results
Disadvantages:
Unrepresentative, Ungeneralisable, Hawthorne Effect, could cause harm to participants
Advantages & disadvantages of Field Experiments
Advantages:
Avoids artificiality, can be used to study past events, no ethical problems
Disadvantages:
Gives the researcher less control over variables and field experiments
What type of data do experiments produce?
Quantitative primary data
What is a Laboratory experiment?
Experiments that take place in controlled environments
What is a Field experiment?
Experiments that take place in real life settings
