Experimental Method Flashcards
experimental method
manipulation of the independent variable to measure the effect on the dependant variable.
types of experimental method
laboratory, field, natural or quasi.
aim
general statement of what the researcher intends investigate- purpose of the study.
hypothesis
testable statement that states the relationship between the dependant and independent variable
directional hypothesis
states the direction of the difference between the variables- one tailed hypothesis
non directional hypothesis
doesn’t state the direction of the difference- two tailed hypothesis
variables
anything which can vary or change within an investigation. generally used in experiments to determine if one change results in another change.
independant variable
manipulated by the researcher, changes naturally so that the effect on the dependant variable can be measured.
dependant variable
measured by the researcher, any effect on DV should be a result go change in IV
operationalism
changing a general idea into a specific one. clearly defining variables in terms of how they can be measured.
two levels of the independent variable
