Experimental designs Flashcards
1
Q
Experimental designs
A
- Independent groups – 2 separate groups involved, each group does the conditions once
- Repeated measures – All p’s take part in all conditions
- Matched Pairs design – P’s are matched on some variable related to the experiment and put into pairs, one of each pair is allocated to different conditions
2
Q
ADV and DIS of Independent groups
A
- Less demand characteristics ( p’s try to make sense of the research and act accordingly to support the aim of the research)
- High levels of individual differences = less internal validity that IV is causing DV.
3
Q
ADV and DIS of Repeated measures
A
- Less time consuming to obtain P’s , only one group needed
- Order effects – boredom, fatigue ( unless controlled using counterbalancing - one half completing the two conditions in one order and the other half completing the conditions in the reverse order)
4
Q
ADV and DIS of matched pairs
A
- No order effects – p’s take part in one condition only
- Difficult to match p’s so reduces internal validity
