Experimental Design Flashcards
What are repeated measures
Each participant is tested in all conditions of an experiment
What Is independent measures
Where the person is only tested in one condition
What is matched pairs
Master of someone similar to them e.g. twins
Advantages of independent groups
Both conditions can be tested at the same time therefore saving time and effort
As participants only involved in one condition potential investor effects and demand characteristics are reduced
Disadvantages of independent groups
Twice as many participants are needed for the design
Participants might be different to participants in another group
What are the advantages of repeated measures
Less people are needed
Saves time effort and money
What are the disadvantages of repeated measures
The cost of a loss of participants is greater since data for both condition is lost compared to 1 and independent groups design
What are the advantages of matched pairs
good control of participant variables
The disadvantages of matched pairs
Matching people can be very difficult
What are the experimental designs
Repeated
Independent
Matched
