Q

Why animals need internal skeleton?

A
  1. The skeleton supports the body and gives it a definite shape.
  2. It protects the delicate internal organs from mechanical injury, e.g. the cranium (skull)
protects the brain, the vertebral column protects the spinal cord, and the ribs and
sternum protect the heart and lungs.
  3. It provides attachment for the muscles and serves as lever enabling movement to take
    place.
  4. It produces blood cells in the bone marrow of the ribs and Iong bones.
