Experiment # 26 Identification of the bones of the pelvic girdles, pectoral gridle, arms and legs by using the model of human skeleton Flashcards
What are the functions of skeleton?
(i) It protects the delicate internal organs.
(ii) It acts as a framework.
(iii) It enables the free movement by the action of muscles.
What are different types of skeleton?
(i) Axial skeleton.
(ii) Appendicualr skeleton.
What does axial skeleton constitutes?
It constitutes theskull, vertebrae and ribs.
What does appendicular skeleton constitute?
It includes limbs and girdles.
What is cranium?
It houses the brain(brain box).
How many ribs are there in human body?
12 pairs.
What is the function of cartilage?
It helps to absorb shock.
What is ligament?
lt joins the bones together.
What is tendon?
lt joins muscle to bone allowing movement.
Name the bones of pectoral girdle.
Clavicle and scapula.
Why animals need internal skeleton?
- The skeleton supports the body and gives it a definite shape.
- It protects the delicate internal organs from mechanical injury, e.g. the cranium (skull)
protects the brain, the vertebral column protects the spinal cord, and the ribs and
sternum protect the heart and lungs. - It provides attachment for the muscles and serves as lever enabling movement to take
place. - It produces blood cells in the bone marrow of the ribs and Iong bones.
