Experiment # 25 Identification of different parts of the respiratory and reproductive system of a dissected frog. Flashcards
How we can differentiate the male frog and female frog from external morphology?
Differentiation of sex of frog from external morphology:
To determine the frog’s is sex, look at the hand digits, or fingers, on its forelegs.
A male frog usually has thick pads on its “thumbs,” which is one external difference between the sexes. Male frogs are also usually smaller than female frogs.
What do you mean by urinogenital system?
Urinogenital system
The urninogenital system includes both the reproductive organs and the excretory organs.
They are considered together because they share some common ducts.
What is a Zoological name of frog?
Rana tigrina
What is the function of kidneys and what is their location?
The kidneys function to eliminate nitrogenous wastes produced during the breakdown of
proteins, regulate water balance, pH and the ionic composition of the body fluids. These
bean-shaped organs are located in the abdominal region adjacent to the dorsal body wall.
What is hibernation?
During severe winter conditions frogs go under the soil in burrows in order to protect
themselves from frost.
What is role of fat bodies?
Fat bodies store food which is used during hibernation or when food is scrace.
What is the route of sperms from testis to the exterior?
The sperms discharged from a testis, pass through vasa efferentia, kidney, ureter, cloaca
and then finally to the exterior via cloacal aperture.
Is there common urino-genital duct in the female frog?
No, in female there is no connection between kidneys and the reproductive organs.
Name, type of fertilization in frog?
In frog external fertilization occurs because after mating both eggs and sperms are
discharged in water.
What is the function of testis?
It produces the male reproductive cells, the sperm.
Why the surface of-the ovary has-rounded projections?
Because it contains eggs or ova in various stages of-development.
What is uterus?
It is the posterior part of the oviduct which enlarges suddenly to form a wide, thin, walled
chamber called uterus.
Where is the urinary bladder of the frogs situated?
The urinary bladder is situated on the ventral side of cloaca.
Where is ureter of the frogs is situated?
The ureter is situated on the dorsal side of cloaca.
What is cloaca?
The single posterior chamber of all vertebrates except placement mammals, agnathans and actionpterygian fished into which the terminal parts of the alimentary canal, kidney and
reproductive ducts open.
