B:in workplace C often discriminated due to religion, many S worried about vast numbers of IC seeking jobs, s believed drove down wages + threatened job positions

IDENTITY
A: initially assimilated well, changed surnames to S ones, marrying native S or change religion
B:from 1800’s=CI started to keep in own communities, shown by fact in 1851=80% of CI in Greenock married other CI
C:more difficult to assimilate in S, communities kept more insular, not mix w/ S, NEG- experience
