Who were the Free Burghers
They were former VOC members who worked as private farmers and sold their crops to the VOC.
Why did they settle along the Liesbeeck River
They settled there because there was fertile soil and a good source of water to grow crops.

Who were the french huguenots
They were immigrants from from France who fled to the Netherlands and decided to work for the VOC
Why did the run away from France
They ran away because at that time the french government was persecuting non Catholics such as protestants, and they were protestants.
Why were they sent here
They were sent here because they had to grow crops at the cape. They were responsible for making wine farms which help set up the wine industry in SA.
What were they forced to do here
They were forced to live with the dutch, learn dutch and the dutch farmers children had to learn french too
Who were the trekboers
They were farmers who wanted to be independent from the VOC st the Cape so the started moving more inland. By 1750 they ha reach the Gariep and by 1770 they had reached Fish River in the east.
How were their lifestyle
They houses were made out of stone or mud or reed matting, most of them lived on wagons. They ate biltong, dried rusks,jams, sour and buttermilk.
They made their own leather shoes and leather thongs which were used as ropes.

What happened during the dutch and Khoi interaction
The free burghers put up fences around their farms to show that hey owned the land. This led to a war between the dutch and Khoi, but the dutch eventually won because they had guns. They Khoi way of life were forced to change such as, some of them went to work as farm workers on dutch farms or some of them went to missions stations to set up churches.
