Exotics Flashcards
1
Q
Birds resp system
A
Gas exchange is an inspiration and expiration
1. Air goes down trachea
2. Goes to bronchi and then SECONDARY bronchi.
3. Then goes to parabronchi, which have connecting loops for efficient gas exchange
4. Air reaches atria and then air capillaries.
5. Finally reaches AIR SACS, which facilitate movement of air across the lung surface.

Q
Bird flight
A
- Pneumatic bones
-Hollow and connected to resp system (filled with air sacs) which makes the skeleton lighter for flight and enhances respiration. - Wings
-Wing structure optimised for flight. Primary feathers provide lift and secondary feathers provide thrust
3.Well-developed flight muscles
-Flight muscles are strong and attch to sternum, which provides power for wing flapping (fast).
