Exercuse Physiology Flashcards
Acute responses of fitness on the cardiovascular system
- heart rate = number of times the heart beats per minute
- stroke volume = the volume of blood pumped per beat
- cardiac output = amount of blood pumped around the body per minute
- systolic blood pressure = the pressure placed upon the arteries during contraction of the heart
- diastolic blood pressure = the pressure placed upon the arteries during relaxation of the heart
Acute responses of fitness on the respiratory system
- breathing rate = the amount of times we breathe in a minute
- tidal volume = the volume of air inhaled each breathe
- minute ventilation = the volume of air inhaled we inhale
- gas exchange rate = the rate at which diffusion occurs to exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide
Food sources and their role in energy production
Carbohydrates - digest very quickly so can be used to rebuild ATP fast, therefore they are a primary source of food
Fats - high and long lasting energy source, slow to digest and to be converted into a usable form of energy, used hen carbohydrates are depleted
Proteins - primary function of proteins is to build and repair tissues - very important in recovery from intense training
Aerobic vs anaerobic
Anaerobic is fats working, it requires oxygen, fuel source is carbohydrates and the byproduct is lactic acid.
Aerobic is the opposite
