Biomechanics Flashcards
What are Newton’s laws
1st law (inertia) - a body continues in a state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless it is acted upon by an external force
2nd (acceleration) - the acceleration of a body is proportional to the force acting on it and takes place in the direction the force acts
3rd (action - reaction) - to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
What are the different movement planes
Sagittal plane - movement in a forward and backward direction (divides the body into left and right)
Frontal plane - movement in a side to side direction (plane divides the body into anterior and posterior)
Traversal plane - rotation around the central axis (plane divides the body in superior and inferior)
Definition of speed and velocity
Speed - the rate at which someone or something moves
Velocity - the speed of something in a given direction
