Exercise and Respiratory System Flashcards
Contractions consume a large amount of O2 and produce a large amount of CO2.
This causes an abrupt increase in ventilation due to stimulation of proprioceptors. With moderate exercise, respiratory depth and rate increase.
At cessation of exercise an abrupt decrease in respiration due to decreased stimulation by proprioceptors. This is followed by a further decrease in rate due to blood chemistry normalizing.
Fact
Airways and tissues of respiratory tract, to include alveoli, become less elastic and more rigid. Chest wall become more rigid as well.
(a) Results in decreased vital capacity (as much as 35% by age 70).
(b) Decreased in blood Oxygen levels
(c) Decreased ciliary and alveolar macrophage activity.
Become more susceptible to pneumonia, bronchitis and other pulmonary disorders.
Factors of what?
Aging
What receptors are located in your mucles
Rate and depth are occociated with Propreceptors
Moderate exercise
Activation of Propreceptors
