Exercise Flashcards
Why do people breathe in more rapidly after vigorous exercise?
To take in more oxygen to get rid of oxygen debt caused by anaerobic respiration
What is oxygen debt ?
The extra oxygen your body needs to taken in to get rid of lactic acid after respiring anaerobically
Why would a fitter person have a lower resting heart rate?
•they have a stronger heart muscle so they can pump more blood
•therefore oxygen demand is met within fewer beats
How does the body respond to exercise?
*energy demand increases so more respiration is needed
*oxygen demand increases which increases rate and depth of breathing
*glucose demand increases -glycogen stores are broken down into glucose
*heart rate increase to get glucose and oxygen to muscles faster
*more carbon dioxide is produced so breathing and heart rate speed up for removal
(every other girl has chickenpox)
Where is lactic acid transported to ?
Transported to the liver by the blood that enters muscles
What is lactic acid converted into
Glucose
What does lactic acid build up in the muscles cause?
•muscle cramping
•muscle fatigue
