How does the president get impeached?
The president can get impeached if the Senate or the House “charge” or impeach him and the Senate confirms.
How old must somebody be to run for president
They have to be at least 35 years old to run for the position
How many terms can a president serve/ how long is a term?
He can serve 2 terms and they are each 4 years
What is the Vice President purpose?
He is the backup for the president and he is also the head of Senate and if there is a tie breaker he chooses
What can the president do about making a law that he doesn’t like
He can Veto the law
How is the president elected
Through a combination of popular votes and electoral college
What are the powers of the president
- commander in chief of military
- power to make treaties but it has to go through senate first
- formal agreements but also has to go through senate first
- nominate or recommend ambassadors for Supreme Court
- can grant pardons to people convicted of violating federal or national laws
- if there is a law he wants to pass he has the power to use the executive order
- He has veto power
What is electoral college?
It is the institution that elects the president and Vice President ever 4 years
What are separation of powers?
It is a key constitutional principle that divides functions of government among the three branches and makes sure that none of the branches have to much power
What are the chief executives two types of power?
Formal (powers given in the specifically in the constitution) and informal
