Excretory System Flashcards
What is the excretory system known for?
The excretory system, also known as the urinary system, is responsible for removing waste products from the body and regulating water and electrolyte balance.
What does the excretory system functions?
Waste Removal: Eliminates harmful substances and metabolic waste from the body.
Fluid Balance: Regulates water levels and electrolytes, helping maintain blood pressure and volume.
pH Regulation: Helps maintain the body’s acid-base balance.
What’s the functions of kidney??
Filter blood to produce urine, removing waste and excess substances.
What’s the function of ureters?
Tubes that transport urine from the kidneys to the bladder.
What does bladder do?
A storage organ that holds urine until it is excreted.
What’s the urethra?
The tube through which urine is expelled from the body.
What does aorta do?
Blood Supply: The abdominal aorta branches into the renal arteries, which deliver oxygen-rich blood directly to the kidneys.
Kidney Function: The kidneys filter this blood to remove waste products and excess substances, producing urine.
Circulatory Role: After filtration, the cleaned blood returns to the circulation through the renal veins, which drain into the inferior vena cava, ultimately returning to the heart.
What is vena cava?
In the excretory system, the vena cava is responsible for returning deoxygenated blood from the kidneys to the heart.
Blood Return: Once the kidneys filter waste from the blood, the purified blood enters the renal veins.
Vena Cava: The renal veins connect to the inferior vena cava, which transports the blood back to the heart.
