What are Diluents (Bulking agents)?

A

inert substance added to make a reasonable sized tablet or increase weight and improve content uniformly i.e lactose, micro crystalline cellulose (MCC), starches.

What are lubricants?

A

necessary to prevent adherence of the formulation to punches and dies. they ensure smooth ejection of the tablet from the die. for example, Steraic acid, magnesium stearate.

What are the role of glidants (flow agents)?

A

materials which are added to tablet formulations in order to improve the flow properties of granules, by reducing inter particulate friction. i.e, fumed silica, asynthetic amorphous colloidal silicon dioxide

What are disintegrates?

A

added to tablets to promote breakup of tablets in vivo, so the active ingredient is rapidly released to increase a surface area, it disintegrates and deaggregates to promote rapid release of drug. I,e starch, PVP, cellulose
