types message that is sent to other people via a server - using computer (or phone)

What are advantages of email?
no need for recipient to be on at the same time
messages could be stores, drafted, or forwarded
message can be filtered to different folders
What are disadvantages of email?
cannot send large attachments
address has to be accurate
must have access to computer/phone
What are advantages of fax?
cheaper to send than ordinary post
arrives quicker than post
used for legal documents
What are disadvantages of fax?
no color
no attachments
only secure is taken care of
What are advantages of video conference?
cost of travel is avoided
calls can be made short notice
easy contact with people who work from home

must have reliable connection
lack of personal contact
difficulty when handing out documents

how are networks arranged?

How do networks work?
- has a node (pc, laptops, printer ect..)
- network interface card needed to connect to a network
- network hub connects nodes together and sends data to the network
- a switch sends data where it is needed
- routers connects networks together, so WiFi can connect devices and WAPs allow them to access internet
What is the WWW (world wide web)
a large collection of web pages containing information
pages are written in HTML (hypertext markup language)
What are navigational aids?
buttons for moving back, forward, or home menus to go to other pages or places on the web
What are hyperlinks?
used to go to other pages or websites, files and documents through URLs
What are some specialised shopping websites?
text boxes for entering details of contacts, payments and validation checks for the details
