Master UpSlide functionality in Excel
How should you demo features?
Frame your demo of each feature by re-iterating their challenge.
‘Currently you do X when linking. As you said this is wasting time and meaning you’re turning down business mandates. I’ll show you how we can fix all that with our Link’
How does our smart formatting apply to complex charts and tables?
You will give us a default table style that smart format will auto-apply to every table. E.g., first line = title, second line = heading, last line = result)
Changing line styles is easy if you need to tweak anything
What images pull through from Excel to PPT?
Enhanced meta files. Lighter than embedding full data set but also much higher quality than a standard image.
How do I make a last minute change? Can I do that in PPT?
Our default link takes Excel as the source of truth and so if you use this link, you will have to make changes in Excel. Easily done with ‘go to source’.
But if you prefer, you can export data as a PPT table and use this flipped link.
How does UpSlide resize and export?
For a table, all it does is resize the first column’s width, all other columns stay consistent.
How does the sizing guide work?
Select the top left box of a table/chart and then click the sizing guide button and resize as needed.
Where can you add / not add columns in a table?
Adding to the middle is fine, adding to the end won’t pull through
What is the primary function of the Excel Link Manager in UpSlide?
It allows users to monitor, update, and manage all links between Excel and other documents, ensuring data consistency.
How can you view link information in UpSlide?
Open the Link Manager and select a link to view its details, such as the source file and last update time.
What should you do if a data source changes location?
Use the Link Manager to update the source path, ensuring the links point to the new file location.
What does the Advanced Export feature in UpSlide allow you to do?
It allows the user to preserve cell visibility in tables allowing the same table to be exported more than once and showing different values.
It also allows the user to preserve image width as opposed to automatically changing with the standard export.
Why is resizing your table or chart important before exporting to PowerPoint?
Proper resizing ensures that the exported elements fit well within the slide layout, maintaining visual consistency.
Can you change the way charts are exported?
Yes, UpSlide’s default is to modify the chart’s width only. But in settings you can toggle ‘Resize Chart Height’ and make the chart fit the exact area, not just the width.
Can we create custom shortcuts?
Yes, in settings you can edit the preset shortcuts to be whatever you want.
How can we ensure consistency across Excel settings?
Ensure everyone has ‘use team settings’ toggled on.

The purpose is to save time when building complex financial models.
There are 4 different advanced paste options:
Preserve Formulas, Duplicate Formulas, Row Heights + Number Formats Only
What does ‘preserve formulas’ do?
Pastes the exact same values and formulas as the original data.
What does ‘duplicate formulas’ do?
Pastes the table and keeps the formulas, but the values can be changed
How can you use the Fast Fill feature in UpSlide?
Fast Fill in UpSlide works like Excel’s native fill function but does not require preselecting the destination range. To use it, select a single cell and press Ctrl + Alt + D for Fill Down or Ctrl + Alt + R for Fill Right. UpSlide intelligently detects how far to fill based on surrounding data
What is the IfError feature and how do you apply it?
It wraps formulas in an IFERROR function to handle errors gracefully. To apply it, highlight the target cells, select IfError from the Formulas dropdown in the UpSlide ribbon, enter an error value or message, and click OK. This will apply the IFERROR function to each highlighted cell
How do you use the CAGR formula feature in UpSlide?
Select the target cell, choose CAGR from the Formulas dropdown in the UpSlide ribbon, select the data range and period (Annual, Quarterly, or Monthly) in the pop-up window, and click OK. UpSlide will automatically try to determine the data range based on adjacent cells

It’s a little bit about time saving too, but this isn’t the main attraction
How much is the extra modelling solution?
€200
What does the native Excel tracking do and what is it called?
It is called tracking precedence + dependence
It just shows an arrow pointing off screen to say there is an error somewhere else in the excel file, it doesn’t show you exactly where like UpSlide’s does (using arrow keys)
How should you go through Autocolour?
No need to go through one by one, just say it shows clearly different results in different colours
- hard coded (black)
- references (green)
- formulas
Can you add multiple CAGR arrows?
Yes, in charting, go to CAGR add the first one then push ‘add’ below and add the second

How should you bench the UpSlide Link when discussing it against a competitor?
Don’t mention the competitor link, just speak to their pains and ESPECIALLY the dream state.
Show them that to get to the dream state they need the UpSlide link. It’s not apples v apples, it’s apples v pears
Why is autocolour good?
Bankers / PE professionals will receive data from 3rd parties (big 4, advisory etc.) and be able to instantly see which cells are hard-coded/formulas.
Helps them get from a->b faster
What’s the good thing about IFERROR?
You can neatly show the error in the sheet, but also you can see the formula that went wrong as opposed to it just being ERROR
What are the colours in autolour?
They are the standard wall street colours
Blue = hard coded
Green = calculations + references to other sheets on the Excel file
Red = external links or error warnings
Black = calculations + references in the same sheet
