Exam Stuff Flashcards
What should you do in unit when given data?
Use ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE to evaluate the significance of data
What to do if there is a chemical equation I don’t know?
1) look at the periodic table. Find the number of electrons on outer shell, and that will tell you the charges
2) find corresponding number of atoms e.g Fe has 2+ charge so iron (II) chloride is FeCl2
3) chances are it is going to be a displacement type of reaction
Conditions for reacting alkenes with halides?
Shake together at room temperature
Liquid of highly concentrated halide solution or gas (as don’t want water involved), bubble gas through
Define saturated
Where atoms linked by single bonds
What is condensation polymerisation?
Reaction between monomers with TWO functional groups so CAN be same or different monomers
