Exam revison Flashcards
What are the components of water?
pH → concentration of H+ in solution.
Acid → increases H+ concentration of a solution (e.g. HCl).
Base → decreases H+ concentration of a solution (e.g. NaOH).
Why do we have lipids and proteins in the body?
Primary Energy source
They help you fight infection
Principle of Segregation?
alleles segregate as a result of meiosis during gamete formation such that any individual gamete contains only one of each pair of alleles.
Principle of independent assortment?
different genes in- separate from one another when r- cells d-
independently
reproductive
develop
difference between autosome and sex chromosomes?
Auto -
Same appearance and number in males and females.
Always present in homologous pairs (chromosomes).
sex -
Different for males and females e.g. XX or XY.
Non-homologous chromosomes
What is ecology?
is the study of how o- interact with one another and with their physical e-
organisms
environment
Cell type for vascular tissue?
xylem and phloem
Function of vascular tissue
transport of water
What is Photosynthesis?
Is a chemical reaction that takes place inside a p-, producing f- for the plant to s-
plant
food
survive
What is needed for photosynthesis to happen?
C- dioxide
W-
L-
Carbon
Water
Light
Where does photosynthesis that place?
In the l- of the plant
leaves
Calvin Cycle? (Part of photosynthesis)
Its l- dependant because it takes place after the e- has been created from the s-
light
energy
sunlight
