How are medics affected by the highway traffic act?
- Don’t have 6 or more demerit points under the Highway Traffic Act
- Maintaining, during 2 years immediately prior to the date he/she commenced employment and during employment has a valid driver’s work
- Such as your F license and G
- Must stop at traffic lights and clear the intersection before proceeding through when responding with lights and sirens
- You can only drive 20km over the speed limit

What is the Employer Responsibilty?
- Employers and supervisors are required to address hazards and educate any hazards in the workplace.

What is the Worker Responsibilty?
- Workers in the workplace who see a health and safety problem, such as a hazard or contravention of the OHSA in the workplace, have a statutory duty to report the situation to the employer or a supervisor
What happens if you fail to stop at a scene of an accident?
- Considered a federal crime offence under the criminal code of Canada
- Any driver involved in an accident must remain at the scene (until additional resources arrive)
- Failure to remain at scene of an accident could result in a penalty of 7 demerit points, $400-2000 fine, possible jail time up to 6 months, license suspension of up to 2 years.
Hot does failure to stop/ remain at a scene of an accident effect Paramedics?
- Ambulances do not have to remain at a scene of a minor accident and there pt is in critical condition
- Notify dispatch/ police that you have gone
- If the accident is major, you need to stay and call a back up crew to come and get your patient

- There are 4 forms:
- Form 1- can be held against your will, signed by a physician
- Form 2- order of examinations
- Form 3- certificate of involuntary admission last up to 14 days
- Form 4- extension of form 3
- These forms are ordered by someone else, need to explain to them what you are doing
When can we restrain a pt?
- Can restrain a pt in the back of the ambulance
- Police has to go in the back if pt is restrained or in handcuffs
- When restraining a pt do not lay them supine
- Pt must show danger to them self or others
- You can use a triangular to restrain a pt
