A

Every taxonomy term has a number of parts or components. The term name indicates the preferred wording for the service concept that is being defined. Effort is made to select clear, unambiguous words that accurately describe the service/issue each term represents. Ex: Domestic Violence Shelters

A

The alphanumeric code describes the place (BH) and level (1800.1500-100) within the hierarchy. The code, not the term name, creates the logic of the hierarchy.

What is a Use Reference?

A

A ‘use reference’ is a synonym for the preferred term name or are different words that describe the same concept. Ex: Domestic Violence Shelter; use references could be: Abused Women’s Shelters, Battered Men’s Shelters, Domestic Violence Shelter, etc.

A

See Also references identify related terms usually in other parts of the overall hierarchy. Ex: Term name is Domestic Violence Shelters, a see also reference could be ‘Confidential Address Protection Programs.’

A

Related Concepts are broader sets of target groups/problems that are connected to relevant taxonomy terms but are NOT themselves part of the actual hierarchy.
