Hadith
A collection of traditions containing sayings of Muhammad. Used for guidance.
Jinn
An intelligent spirit. Lower than Angels and able to take on human and animal form
Muhammad ibn Abd al-wannab
Saw so much shirk he took extremes action. Against superstition Islam, Shiites, veneration of saints, music, traditions, Ect. Saudi Arabia behead if would not comply.
Recording Angels
Angels that sit on your shoulders and record everything and tell them in on judgement day
Sayyid Qutb
Egyptian became more and more critical of the lack of morals all over the world, even Islam. US especially corrupt. Osama bin Ladin followed Qutb. Need government to follow sharia law. Once that law is instituted in the whole world everyone will be free.
Shiites
Believe the caliph should be a dependent of Ali Lineage. They vary in what leader they follow compared to the Sunnis
Shirk
Claiming likeness with God, unpardonable sin.
Sunni
Argue that leaders can be chosen from a decedent of prophet. Muhammad’s tribe.
Uthman
3rd caliph of the rashidun caliph
1) one God: attributes of God, knowledge, power, seeing, emphasis on Gods unity, revelation of will. Other thoughts on God distant, can do good or evil.
2) Angels: recording Angels. Jinn.
3) prophets. Bearers of Gods divine will.
4) Scriptures. Torahs, psalms, gospel, Quran, Hadith, shariah.

The pillars of Islam
1) Shahada creed/witness. Stated as confession of faith and said before big moments. “I bear witness that there is no other God bit Allah and his messenger is Muhammad.”
2) salat:prayers. Muslims pray 5 times a day. Sunset and two hours after sunset. Ceremonial washings before prayer. For folk religion getting rid of bad spirits. Pray facing Mecca.
3) zakat: alms giving. 1/40 of a persons yearly net profit. Given directly to the poor/ charity.
4) swam: fasting. Ramadan. Only from sun up to sun down. No eating no drinking no pleasure.
5) hadji pilgrimage. Every Muslim is required to go to. Very emotional. Sins forgiven/ extra credit on judgement day
6) sometimes a 6th one is jihad
Greater and lessor jihad
Greater is the inner struggle to control ones desire and please God. 1)heart right beliefs 2) tongue, speaking truth 3) hand, good deeds and morality.
Lesser jihad holy war believes once everyone submits to the law we will all live in peace. 5 principles of holy war: physical violence, persuasion only, Islamic country is justified in using force when another country is attacking, when a country goes against the excersize of Islam they can use aggression, once a country is Islam it may never be allowed to convert to non Muslim hands.

Day 1: preparation and washing. Uniform dress, sharing- cleanness and equality. Tawat: walk around Kaaba seven time, touch black stone. Sai: walk/run back and forth 7 times. Drink at well. Day 2: high point: great pilgrimage to spend day on mount hrata where Muhammad gave last sermon. Often a spiritual high point. Live in tent city for three days. Stoning the devil. 9 rocks, rejecting satans temptation in their lives. Eid- al- adha- celebration of gratitude. Often times people do one more round of Kaaba.
