Q

What are yin and yang? Describe how they maintain balance in the world.

A

Yin and yang are two fundamental elements. Everything in the world has a certain way to be. If they are not that certain way then the yin and yang will be off balance. When they are off balance it is considered evil. When they are both in balance it is considered good. There is yin and yang in everything. The goal is to have the right balance of the both of them. Neither force is good or evil but yin is considered negative while yang is considered positive. Yin is more genome and yang masculine. For the world to be right we need a balance of both.

17
Q

Describe how Chinese fortune telling in the temple works. Describe the process from beginning to end.

A

First the man would kneel with incense and perform proper respect for the gods. Then the man will hold the tumbler at 45 degrees above him and shake it until a stick falls out in front of him. He then takes the crescent blocks and drops them to the ground. If they land with one hollow side up and one down then the answer resembles the yang and the answer is yes. If it lands in any other way it is either no or retry. If he receives a yes then he would need a diviner to determine what the stick says. At this point he will take it to a fortune teller who matches the stick with a specific piece of paper which shows the mans fortune.
