What is a Beach?
Broad ribbon of sand that lies on the land along the edge of the sea.
What is a Berm?
A Buffer protecting the coast from the ocean.
What happens if all the sand at a beach is eroded?
The waves can attack the cliffs or land directly
What is a Balance Beach?
A Beach Which loses as much sand in the winter high surf as it gains in the summer low surf
What kind of rocks do round pebbles come from?
Igneous
What kind of rocks do flat pebbles come from?

What is the Shore?
The narrow strip of land in contact with the sea
What is a Backshore?
The strip of land extending from the cliff to a break in the slope
What is a Foreshore?
The area of the beach that slopes away from the land toward the sea.

The flat area inland from the water covered by sand or gravel

Reflection off the breakwater
What is a Beach Scarp?
Cliff space cut by waves
What is a Diurnal?
A single high-tide and low-tide in a 24hr span (Gulf of Mexico)
What is a Semi-Diurnal?
Two high-tides and low-tides in a 24hr span, tide height is the same (East Coast)
