A
- autoimmune attacks myelin of peripheral nerves
- causes symmetrical progressive weakness and impaired sensation in UE and LE
- less often associated with preceding infection as in AIDP
- (video of dude running with windy sounds)

Anodyne therapy
A
- light therapy for patients with neuropathy
- produces deep heat in tissue
- use: 20-40 mins at 20-45 volts, 3x/wk-everyday
- inconclusive with evidence

Diabetic neuropathy
A
- microvascular disease, elevated glucose levels
- numbness, tingling, radiating pain, weakness, pain, limb loss

Meralgia paresthetica
A
- mononeuropathy of the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve (only provides sensation)
- caused by compression, irritation, or trauma
- most commonly nerve trapped behind posts and under the inguinal ligament
- localized hair loss, possible hypersensitivity medial to ASIS

Ramsay hunt syndrome
A
- caused by herpes virus
- common in people who had chicken pox
- painful shingles rash in and around one ear,
- facial paralysis on same side as affected ear

A
- most common incomplete spinal cord injury
- UE > LE
- hyperextension injury
- cervical spondy is big risk factor

- non-traumatic injury to spinal cord
- prolonged ext of L-spine in surfers

Vasculitis of brain or spinal cord
A
- inflammation of blood vessel walls in the brain or spinal cord
- caused by viral or bacterial infection. Or secondary to autoimmune disease
- multiple mini strokes make be common

A
- brain tissue protrudes into spinal cord through foramen magnum
- commonly cerebellum
