define inward sin
things in the heart “evil thoughts and tempers such as pride, anger, self-will, and jealousy”
define outward sin
how they are expressed as deeds “overt acts of wickedness”
define depravity
sometimes called sinful nature, our desires are not God’s desires, we persistently walk contrary to God’s way
define original sin
universal sin, the originality of sin is found in the fact that all have fallen short of God’s glory. each of us is born into a world that is sinful and into a sinful human nature.
even before we become responsible moral and spiritual agents, we participate in this sinful world and receive the consequences of participating.
what is the difference between personal sin and sin nature ?
Personal sins are actual acts you commit, i.e., lying
Sin nature is being a human, living in the world of sin
discuss spiritual death alienation
alienation manifests itself as spiritual death. by turning away from God and failing to receive God’s revelation, they have consigned themselves to a state of living death, for although they continue to exist in the world of sin, they are separated from God as a corpse is from the living.
discuss alienation as judgment
judgment implies a separation. those who remain “enemies of the cross of Christ” will face the “punishment of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord”
discuss alienation removed from physical environment and community
because if our alienation from God, we are alienated as well from the created world that tells of God
