Raster Plot
displays the spiking activity of a group of neurons over time
Each row (y-axis) corresponds to the index of a neuron in a neuron group
Columns (x-axis) corresponds to the time
Form Perception
Limiting factors for spatial acuity: Receptive field size, Innervation density
Texture Perception
surfaces of different texture can be subjectively divided into groups that include slippery, rough, leathery, and wet. The perception of roughness has been studied most extensively. Most affected by the density and height of the individual surface elements.
Vibration Perception
The tactile system easily discriminates mechanical vibrations. Divided into 2 separate sensations: flutter(under 40 Hz) vibration(over 40 Hz). Detection threshold is a U-shaped curve
Relationship between 2-pt discrimination, spatial acuity
Two point discrimination. Spatial acuity: minimal separation between 2 points that permits each to be perceived separately
