A

• neck flexion, extension, rotation

  • total paralysis of trunk, upper/lower extremities
  • typically ventilator dependent and inability to clear secretions
  • total assistance with ADL and 24hr care usually needed
  • may be able to operate a power/tilt wheelchair with a “sip n’ puff” assistance device

A
  • neck flexion, extension, rotation
  • scapular movements
  • paralysis of trunk, upper/lower weakness, inability to cough, diminished respiratory reserve secondary to paralysis of intercostal muscles
  • may be able to breath without ventilator
  • total assistance with ADL and 24hr care usually needed
  • may be able to operate power/tilt wheelchair

A
  • shoulder, elbow movements
  • absence of elbow extension/supination and all wrist/hand movements as well as total paralysis of trunk and lower extremities
  • personal home care required
  • may be able to self feed with equipment, set up some grooming tasks, turn pages, write, press button with adaptive equipment
  • respiratory endurance and vital capacity are diminished, person with C5 may require assistance to clear secretions
  • they will remain dependent with bowel and bladder care

A

• shoulder, elbow movements plus wrist extension and forearm supination

  • absence of wrist flexion, elbow supination, hand movement
  • total paralysis of trunk and lower extremities
  • some personal home care needed
  • may be able to empty leg bag, assist with level transfers, feed self, bath and dress upper body, drive car from wheelchair level
  • be able to propel a wheelchair manually on indoor surface
