Exam 2 REVISON Flashcards
What is identical for each isotope
Number of protons and electrons
Some properties of organic compounds include
- Decolourises red- brown coloured bromine water.
- Reacts with reactive metals
- Can be used as a monomer in polymerisation reactions.
What applies to transition metals but not to the main group metals
Transition metals form compounds which are often coloured.
Isomers of a compound have
Similar chemical properties and same molecular formula
If Insufficient ammonia had been used in a combustion reaction what would not be affected
Number of Copper ions in the reaction tube
Which one of the group 16 hydrides has the lowest boiling point?
Water
What best explains why the melting point of one group 16 hydride is higher than melting points of all other hydrides.
Larger Molecules always have stronger intermolecular bonds than smaller ones
10ml sample of a acid has a pH of 3 . The sample was diluted with water to give final Vol of 1.0L. The pH of the diluted solution
0.03
It can be concluded that in a methanoic acid solution
Is a weak acid because the solute is partially ionised to produce COO ^2- ions
Which property of water is most Influenced by the value of the latent heat of vaporisation.
Ability to act as a solvent
How many mole of a Strong Diprotic acid would be required to neutralise 1 mole of the weak base ammonia (NH3)
2.0 Mole
What would Increase the concentration of the potassium nitrate solution in the test tube
Increasing the temp of the solution.
Structure and bonding in MgCl
The structure of MgCL involves a regular arrangement of Mg cations and Cl anions. Magnesium Chloride is an ionic lattice, held together by electrostatic forces between the cations and anions.
This creates a very high boiling point. This creates a very high boiling point. The bound is created by one magnesium atom giving 2 electrons to 2 chlorine atoms to achieve full outer shells.
What happens to Mg particles in molten MgCl in order to produce Mg metal
Magnesium ions gain electrons.
Solid CaCL mixed with MgCl to lower its melting temp.
Why is this an advantage in the industrial production of Mg metal.
Takes less heat energy to retrieve the magnesium metal. Draw the dot diagrams
