Exam 2 (Review slides 31-41) Flashcards
3 procedures are necessary to use the fully adjustable articulator properly and effectively:
- An exact hinge axis location of the condyles for the facebow
- A pantographic recording
- A CR occlusal record
Working side occlusal interferences
- Lingual inclines of the maxillary posterior facial cusps
- Facial inclines of the mandibular posterior facial cusps
- Lingual inclines of the maxillary posterior lingual cusps
- Facial inclines of the mandibular posterior lingual cusps
(1,2 –> A contact 3,4 –> C contact)
Location of non-working interferences of the mandible
Lingual inclines of the mandibular posterior facial cusps
A & C contacts will display the condyle on what side deviating laterally? The condyle on what side of the interference is anterior to the CR position?
Opposite
Same side
Myofascial pain Syndrome definition
Pain of a regional nature beginning within a specific trigger point within muscle/fascia
- Pain can refer to other areas of the body
- Associated phenomena may include autonomic abnormalities such as blanching, coldness, sweating, erythema, hyperesthesia, and hyperalgesia. These may be locally or within the area of referred pain.
Define Muscle Trismus:
- Pain is variable
- Incisal-interocclusal distance is less than 18 mm
- Hard end-feel
- Is a reversible process
- Condition is secondary to: Infection, Hematoma & Trauma
Anterior temporalis is a trigger to what?
Maxillary incisors
Disc displacement with reciprocal click define opening click and closing click
Opening click: Regaining position
Closing click: Articular disc pops out of position to the anterior, very near closed
Intracapsular disorders can elicit pain with increased or decreased interarticular pressure and mandibular movement?
Increased interarticular pressure
Intracapsular disorders; Any movement provoked by manipulation of the mandible will elicit what?
Elicit pain if it increases pressure on the TMJ
Intracapsular disorders: If the patient has pain from biting on the tongue blade, what will continue to exhibit pain?
The inferior lateral pterygoid muscle
Intracapsular disorders: Having a patient protrude their mandible aginst resistance as they bit will not do what?
Increase pain if the problem is intracapsular but will increase pain if it is the inferior lateral pterygoid muscle
Intracapsular disorders: Biting on opposite side of affected joint will do what?
Increase pain
Pain input: A patient suffering from necrotic pulp pain will limited mouth opening once the pain is resolved will not return to normal ROM. (T or F)
False, will return to normal ROM.
- Be careful not to confuse with this situation with TMD
Pain input: A patient with pain in the cervical spine can produce a reflex muscle response in the trigeminal area, most notably the muscles of mastication
True
- Be careful not to confuse this situation with TMD
