Exam 2 (Review slides 11-20) Flashcards
T or F, intra-arch alignment of the teeth allows the mandible to be 1/2 step ahead of the maxillary arch
True
Describe Ideal force application
Occlusal forces placed on posterior teeth are intended to go up & down the long axes of the roots
Preferred name of cusp-fossa relationship of posterior teeth for the maxillary lingual cusps and mandibular facial cusps
Centric
Describe static or stationary occlusion concepts (5)
- Student should envision the centric relation and maximum intercuspation positions as coincident when attempting to describe ideal tooth positions
- On each individual tooth there are precise locations of where occlusal contacts should be placed when the mandible has completely closed against the maxilla
- Tooth contacts should be precise, minimal and short-lasting
- The arches should receive the contact and then release or disengage from each other, when movement commences
- Many contacts are anatomically-driven, in that there are strategically better locations in each collective arch that determine the most optimal locations of stationary occlusal contact
Mesiolingual cusp of the mandibular second molar goes with what fossa? (non-centric cusp)
Lingual embrasure between the maxillary first and second molars
Distofacial cusp of the maxillary first molar goes with what fossa/marginal ridge? (non-centric cusp)
Distofacial groove on the mandibular first molar or the facial embrasure between the mandibular molars
Describe lateral protrusive movement
Located at a 45 degree angle between protrusion and working movements
