Internal rotation- lateral meniscus
External rotation- medial meniscus
Patella ballottement test
Looking for retropatellar effusion or intraarticular knee swelling
Patella feels spongy
Increased patella movement
Bounce home test
Looking for meniscal tear
There may be pain in joint or not able to extend the knee
Clarke’s sign
Looking for Chondromalacia patella or degeneration of the patellofemoral joint
Retropatellar pain
McMurray sign
Internally rotated and valgus stress= lateral meniscus tear
Externally rotated and virus stress= medial meniscus tear
Pain, crepitus or clicking sound
Lateral Pivot shift maneuver
Looking for ACL tear
Patient feels like knee is going to pop out or give out
Lachman test
Looking for sprain or rupture of ACL
Pain with normal translation- Sprain, Grade 1
Pain with increased translation- Rupture, Grade 2-3
Drawer test
Looking for sprain or rupture of ACL or PCL
Pain with normal translation- Sprain
Pain with increased translation- Rupture
Q angle test
An angle less than 13 suggest patellofemoral dysfunction or patella Alta
An angle greater than 18 suggests patellofemoral dysfunction or patella valgus
