Allis sign aka (Galeazzi sign)
One knee is compared to another
Looking for ipsilateral femoral leg discrepancy ( protrusion of acetabuli, hip dislocation, hip fracture)
Anvil Test
Heel pain- could be calcaneous, tibia or fibula fracture depending on pain point
Hip pain- could be arthritis, a femoral neck fracture or infection
Looking for pain in the kinetic chain from heel to acetabulum
Gauvain’s sign
Looking for AVN, infection, fracture or gout
Ipsilateral contraction of abdominal muscles
Pain in the hip
Referred pain to the groin or anterior thigh
Hip telescoping test
Looking for hip dislocation or hip dysplasia
MC in Mediterranean and Scandinavian women
Looking for excessive joint play or a palpable click in the joint
Patricks test
Looking for DJD, OA, RA, SCFE, AVN, fracture, strain/sprain
Pain in the hip or the patient isnt able to perform test
Obers test
Affected thigh remains abducted and may be painful or may drop with spastic jerks, indicating ILIOTIBIAL CONTRACTION
Thomas test
Looking for flexion contracture or shortening of iliopsoas on affected side
The lumbar spine maintains lordosis or the patient is unable to keep affected thigh flat on the table
Trendelenburgs test
Looking for paralysis or weakness of the hip abductors on the affected side, or hip dsyplasia
High iliac crest on supported leg and low iliac crest on the lifted leg
Ortolani’s test
Looking for congenital femoral dislocation or instability in the area
Looking for palpable click or clunk
