1
Q
What are the 4 components of normal UE function?
A
- locate target
- reach
- grasp
- manipulate
2
Q
Important sense in locating a target for UE function?
A
vision: coordinated head & eye movement very important in giving information pertaining to distance to object, object size, etc.
3
Q
Important factors to consider for reach?
A
- role of arm
- postural control
- transportation
4
Q
Speed progression in reaching for an object?
A
-slow initially, speed increases towards object & then slows down when target it reached
5
Q
What type of velocity profile (on a graph) would a normal reach look like?
A
-bell curve [straight & smooth trajectories]
6
Q
Final movement adjustments that occur just before grasping?
A
- grasp size decreases as it nears object
- when using vision, aperture size barely larger than object
- thumb guides movement; index finger adjusts to object size
