Exam 2 - External Heart Flashcards
1
Q
Size of heart
A
- As big as your fist (relatively small)
- Weighs 250 - 300g (male or female)
2
Q
Location of heart
A
- 2/3 of it lies on the left side
- rests on diaphragm
- rotated slightly so that Right side is facing more anterior
- looks like cone lying on its side
3
Q
Apex of heart
A
- rests on diaphragm
- apex formed by tip of LV
4
Q
Base of heart
A
- Posterior surface of heart
5
Q
Anterior View
A
- what you would see if you look in right from front
- See:
- Anterior surface
- Diaphragmatic surface (the inferior part when looking in)
6
Q
Borders
A
- Right border (SVC / RA / IVC)
- Left border aka Obtuse margin (LV / auricles of LA)
- Inferior border aka acute margin
7
Q
Diaphragmatic View
A
- Looking up at heart from bottom
- Really see the ventricles
8
Q
Posterior view
A
- looking from back
- see the Atria really well…..ventricles not so much
9
Q
Sulci (grooves)
A
- atrioventricular (RCA, LCA, circumflex A, coronary sinus)
- anterior interventricular (LADA, great cardiac vein)
- posterior interventricular (post. Descending a, middle cardiac v)
- coated with fat…contain coronary arteries
10
Q
Coronary circulation
A
- blood moves too fast through heart to give off nutrients directly….hence its own circulation
- start with two main coronary arteries (Perfuses when aortic valve is closed…not when open during systole)
11
Q
Right Coronary artery
A
- supplies right side of heart
- originates from right aortic sinus of valsalva
- runs along right atrioventricular sulcus
- Branches into: -R atrial branches
- Post. Desc. Artery
- R marginal branches (acute marginals)
12
Q
Left Coronary Artery
A
- shorter than RCA (but distributes to larger area)
- arises from Aorta
- branches into: - LAD a (branches off that are called diagonals)
- L circumflex
- Left marginal branches (obtuse marginals)
13
Q
Anastomose
A
- when circulation overlaps or Perfuses the same area via two pathways
14
Q
Coronary dominance
A
- determined by which coronary artery gives rise to PDA
- most of time it is right (67%) but can be left (15%)
15
Q
Coronary Veins
A
- Cardiac veins (run parallel to coronary arteries)
- Thebesian veins (empty directly into Arita or ventricles)
