Describe Charlemagne’s place in history and contributions. What was the Carolingian Renaissance?
Charlemagne lived in about the 9th century, he could not write, but he was an admirer of the arts, classical culture, and learning. He opened a famous school in a palace, and this palace was famous initiating the Carolingian renaissance. Charlemagne wished to establish a system of education for the young in his kingdom. The primary purpose of his school was to develop literacy.
Carolingian Renaissance: Charlemagne needed scholars to reform existing texts and to halt their terrible corruption.
What is Benedictine Monasticism?
Required the monks to take oaths of chastity, obedience, and they worked hard.
Describe Gregorian chants.
No instruments, strictly voices (god given instrument) began with one man singing a repeating melody.

What events caused the dark ages following Charlemagne? What events cause the optimism and growth after 1000 AD?
United Europe, when he died his kingdom disintegrated and attacked on all fronts. People hiding in castles due to being attacked.
Describe Romanesque style.
(Romanesque period-men driven (Eve brought evil into world, made from rib which was pointless body part)) Heavy masonry, round arches, and relatively simple ornamentation.
