Q

Sexuality in PA/Pt Relationship

A

Emotional and physical intimacy of the clinician-patient relationship may cause sexual feelings.
If you experience those feelings, accept them as normal and bring them to a conscious level so they will not affect your behavior.
Denying the feelings makes it more likely for any clinician to act inappropriately.
ANY sexual contact or romantic relationship with a patient is UNETHICAL.
Keep your relationship with your patient professional.
If you meet a patient who makes sexual advances or acts inappropriately, calmly but firmly make it clear that your relationship is professional, NOT personal.
If the patient continues, leave the room and seek a chaperone.
