Exam #1: Review Flashcards
What portions of the brain does the ACA supply?
- Medial aspect of frontal & parietal lobes
- Medial sensorimotor cortex
Generally, what portions of the brain does the MCA supply?
Generally, it supplies the entire lateral surface of the cerebral cortex
What are the two divisions of the MCA?
Superior
Inferior
What does the superior division of the MCA supply?
- Cortex above the lateral fissure
- Lateral frontal cortex
- Precentral & post-central gyri
What does the inferior division of the MCA supply?
- Cortex below the lateral fissure
- Lateral temporal lobe
- Parts of the parietal lobe
What are the watershed territories?
Areas between the ACA & MCA that are connected via tiny capillaries
What causes watershed infarcts?
Severe drops in blood pressure
How many posterior & anterior spinal arteries are there? Where does these arteries branch from?
2x posterior
1x anterior
All 3x come off the vertebral arteries
What does PICA stand for?
Posterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery
What does PICA supply?
- Inferior cerebellum
- Choroid plexus
- Lateral medulla
What does AICA stand for?
Anterior Inferior Cerebellar Artery
What does AICA supply?
- Anterior/ inferior surface of the cerebellum
- Caudal/ lateral pons
What artery does the superior cerebellar artery brach from? What does it supply?
Basilar
- Superior cerebellum
- Caudal midbrain (tectum)
- Rostral pons
What do the pontine arteries supply?
Lateral pons
What do the posterior cerebral arteries supply?
- Midbrain
- Thalamus
- Medial/ inferior surface of the occipitial & temporal lobes
