Lamarck reasoned that Giraffes stretch their necks to reach food in trees. As food consumption reduces on the relatively lower levels of the trees, giraffes will acquire slightly longer necks to reach food. This trait will then be passed on to next generation.

(2) Scarcity leads to a struggle for survival (e.g organisms and species less of advantage relative to other organisms will die off — strong ones survive)

   Keynote: strong or (fitness) doesn't necessarily mean big and strong
      could also refer to conditions (usually environmental) that give a species
         an advantage of another

(3) Fit or strong one survive and pass on their genes to future generations
