Q

Counter evidence for functionalist arguements

A

Functionalists ignore external factors (such as socialization) that could influence women to be ‘weaker’ then men. Their logic of roles in a family is flawed because women are just as captable to do the instrumental role.

They’re too deterministic and refuse to see more postmodern points of view (the patriarchy also effects men as they feel like they have to ‘stay masculine’).

-35% of black women between 16 and 64 work part time and 38% of white british work part time while the average across multiple races is 37%. For men the average is 11%. (GOV.UK) (this shows how ethnicity doesn’t matter because all women take on part time work due to natural disadvantages compared to men).

21
Q

Counter evidence for Webarian arguements

A

Critics have argued that using ‘status’ as a fixed way of measuring inequality for women doesn’t account for intersectional approaches and how that interacts with other parts of identity (eg, a white women could have more status then a working class man)

  • Valerie Moran is a black women and has a net worth of £122 million for being a sucsessful buisness woman, however the median weekly earning for a white working class man would be £725 (Parliment UK).
