when was NATO formed
1949, which caused a split in europe as half was communist in the buffer zone and the other half on the western side was capitalist. NATO was set up so that Stalins buffer zone doesn’t increase. This showed how bad relations were in 1949
What happened in 1953
In 1953 Starlin died and this was seen as a good thing as this gave hope to the west and for people in soviet countries who had poor living standards. Shortly after krushchev was put into power and this tore all hope even though countries were startling to be able to survive on there own. This created a new era for american-soviet relations as they both had new leaders.
Why was the warsaw pact formed
In 1955 west germany joined nato krushchev knew this was a negative thing so he made the warsaw pact. This is where if a soviet or soviet controlled country got attacked the warsaw pact would help out.
